Our second stay at the Boathouse. A super way to start the new year. Lunch at the New Inn in Winchelsea. Very welcoming, relaxing and excellent sausage & onion baguette! The Ship also provided good beer and a tasty dinner.

Weather has been kind – we have had many interesting walks but need to return as we have so much more to see.

Thank you for the fizz! We will be back!

Another stay at the Boathouse bit a different apartment – still the usual high standard (thank you Chris). If you like game try the Queen’s Head – opposite Landgate Bistro for an inexpensive meal.

Also enjoyed meals at Gandhi & Simply Italian. Good Birdwatching & walking at Rye Harbour & Dungeness.

Really lovely stay. We enjoyed watching the river. Recommend the shipwreck at Jury’s Gap at low tide. Very peaceful & secluded, like a home away from home. Thanks for the stay and the bubbly – a lovely birthday treat.

Another repeat week at the Boathouse revisiting familiar places. Area seemed busier this year – loads of bird watchers at Dungeness apparently looking for a Lapwing Bunting which Alan almost stood on! Saw Egret on riverbank opposite apartment, but our bird knowledge is sparse! Weather dry with a couple of dull days, but windy – only managed 3 days in shorts this time. Eating out good, Carey’s, Baileys and Simply Italian all v. good. At Rye Harbour try William the Conqueror Pub – does lunch and evening meals (after 7.00) with boules being played outside. Avocet Tea Room and Gallery worth a visit. Will no doubt return again.

Great little town with exceptional selection of places to eat.

Simply Italian – Good food, good portions, good value. For something different try MAHDI SPICE – no air conditioning but wonderful Bangladeshi food. The Crown & Flushing Inn – good but expensive! Ypres Castle Inn not cheap but great food. Baileys was a surprise – their mixed grill & steak were very good. For the best pub grub, home made, fresh veg & gravy try the Bridge Inn @ Winchelsea.

DAYS OUT – Take the steam train from Tenterden to Bodiam Castle.

Canterbury – always worth a visit.

For N.T. Members (& others)

Scotney is a must along with Sissinghurst (of course).

For a walk – try Rye Harbour to Winchelsea via Camber Castle.

If you like fish – try the Fresh Fish Shop on New Road.

Cheap & fresh and landed daily.

ENJOY!,

Arrived for an anti-valentine break with a heavy heart and stressed with work pressures. The deep peace of the tranquil surroundings have recharged my spiritual batteries. Lovely apartment – warm welcome from Joy and sunshine! I will be back. Thank you.

Thanks as usual for the well kept flat. We come regularly but seem to have become creatures of habit. Lunch from the Deli to eat back here, mornings in Rye and afternoons at Dungeness & Rye Harbour.

Unexpectedly better weather – only one damp morning so afternoon walks with some sun and no wind. Evening meals at Landgate Bistro (mid-week set menu), The Ship (somewhat smarter & a little pricier) and Simply Italian. Look out for the Barn Owl hunting just before dusk on opposite banks and field.

Quiet location, convenient for travelling to various locations.

Highlights –

enjoyed Tenterden town then onto Kent & East Susses Railway to Bodiam Castle

the audio tour of Rye – obtained from the tourist office – really good

Best restaurant by far is ‘The Monastery’ 6 High Street 01797 223272 – Looks empty from the front but main area is behind

Sunday shopping – try the garage opposite of river to Tourist Office – basics available.

Another enjoyable trip to Rye.

Enjoyed our stay in the ‘Boathouse’ very much, clean & comfortable. Visited Battle Abbey & Yesterday’s World good for all ages & worth visiting. Beach Retreat Café at Winchelsea beach ideal for snack/lunches/dinners; varied menu & reasonably priced.

Hope to be back before too long.

Hired bikes, tiring but good fun.
